A SMALL amount of water was dripping from the air conditioner into my neighbour’s drink.
The barman wandered over, looked at the problem, and asked: “Would you like an umbrella, sir?”
Everything here is Irish, from the pints of Guinness to the dry humour.
Kilkenny’s is a long pub with a bar on one side, and drinkers on the other.
Towards the back it spreads out a little to make room for a big screen TV and a small music stage.
There’s a good choice of draught beer and spirits, and a special offer is a pint of Singha for 99 baht.
Throughout the week there is a special each day, which includes Mexican, curry, or roast dinners at the weekend. If you fancy DIY food, there’s an ocean terrace where you can cook your own barbecue.
Sport is a major thing here, and forthcoming events are advertised
outside the bar. Chalk boards inside give the place a slightly
rural feel and tell all about the latest specials or offers.
On my particular visit England were playing a World Cup qualifying game and the buzz in the place was fantastic.
Beer was flowing, the singing was loud and it was just the usual England performance that let things down a bit. Undeterred, the crowd was intent on enjoying itself, and was helped along by a lively staff that were not just there to serve drinks.
Irish pubs are hardly a rarity in Pattaya but few can boast an atmosphere like Kilkenny’s.
