Shooters Bar

Walking Street
South Pattaya

Pattaya is dominated by British, German, and Australian visitors. Given that, and especially given the latter’s love for lager, you would expect more bars from down under.

It’s the British-themed bars that tend to dominate here though, so it’s left to the likes of Scooters to keep the Aussie end up.

Most of the drinkers here are fair dinkum Aussies, and conversation often revolves around Aussie Rules, beer, and girls.
A long bar sits in the middle of Shooters, with seating around its edge. There are many reminders of the bar’s theme, from the Victoria Bitter and Tooheys New flags, to the baseball caps and flags draped everywhere. Drinks are more local though, with Singha and Heineken being the main options (Singha is 55 baht a bottle, soft drinks are 30 baht).

If you do want something more Australian, you could try the cocktails, which come in the form of a Dingo’s Drop Kick, Root 9, or the Slippery Nipple, which cost between 85-90 baht.

Service is exceptionally friendly, with half a dozen girls ready to chat. Two small TV screens show some sport, and Western pop music provides background noise, but it’s usually the punters themselves that provide the entertainment.

Food is also offered via a whiteboard menu at the entrance.

Shooters has the benefit of not having to try too hard, if you’re Australian you’ll find it, and if you’re Australian, chances are you’ll have a good time there.
One conversation near me was developing the theory that one Aussie Rules player couldn’t catch a cold in the Arctic. This was briefly interrupted when a garbage truck pulled outside and one drinker turned to his friend and said: “Eh, mate, looks like your taxi’s here!”
